I wrote this song for Stephanie shortly after she suffered a miscarriage in December 2020. It was my way of showing support through this difficult time in her life as well as a means of encouragement should she and her husband decide to try again. They ended up being successful in their next attempt and we crafted the song while Stephanie was pregnant. Today, as the song is released, Stephanie is excitedly anticipating the birth of her rainbow baby boy, Ezra. A full circle account that starting over is hard, but with faith and perseverance you can overcome any of life's hardships.
lyrics
INTRO
Starting over can be hard to do
But you should know, I believe in you
INTROLUDE
You, you
VERSE
(Stephanie)
My journey has been rough
Wounds may heal, but there’s still cuts
(Jarreau)
You have grown to be so tough
Above it all, you’ve got guts
(Stephanie)
So much pain behind my eyes
Trying so hard not to cry
(Jarreau)
You are building up your strength
I’m always here, at arm’s length
PRECHORUS
Taking a chance, is the difficult part
Gotta dig deep inside your heart
CHORUS x2
Starting over can be hard to do
But you should know, I believe in you
INTERLUDE x2
I believe in you, you, I believe in you
VERSE
(Stephanie)
Gotta tell you my brain hurts
from everything I’ve built
watching it all crumble
Hit below the belt
How do I start over?
When there’s no going back...
(Jarreau)
Just take a leap of faith
Learning as you stumble
I’m standing by your side
As you get back on track
PRECHORUS
Taking a chance, is the difficult part
Gotta dig deep inside your heart
CHORUS x2
Starting over can be hard to do
But you should know, I believe in you
INTERLUDE x2
I believe in you, you, I believe in you
BRIDGE
I believe in, I believe in, I believe in you (dry your eyes)
I believe in, I believe in, I believe in you (no more crying)
I believe in, I believe in, I believe in you (now’s your time)
I believe in, I believe in, I believe in you
OUTRO
I believe in you
Deep inside your heart
Take the leap of faith
Taking a chance
I believe in you
